Q. Why is there a power trip when switching on the heater ?

Power trip happen when the home circuit breaker detects an unusual electrical leakage due to a heater component failure. This faulty component could be a heating element, thermostat, thermal fuse or just the heater on/off switch outside the bathroom

Q. Is it better to repair or to replace the tank ?

Normally it is just one component that is faulty hence it is more economical to repair than to replace the whole tank

Q. The tank is very old and installed many years ago.

As long as there is no sign of water leakage or bad corrosion, it can be repaired. The oldest tank repaired was a 20 years old tank

Q. How long is needed for the repair ?

For exposed tank, about 40 minutes. For tank above false ceiling, about 90 minutes

Q. Need to cut open false ceiling if the tank is above ?

Repair work is done through the access panel hence there is no need to cut open and patching of false ceiling. No mess at all

Q. Apart from power trip, what other symptoms can be repaired ?

Symptoms like water not hot, heater no power, burnt smell, water seepage from front cover, strange dripping sound and etc, mostly all can be repaired

Q. Can I get my neighbour to repair the heater :)

No!!!   Water heater repairs require trained professional with electrical knowledge and plumbing skill, in addition to proper working tools and replacement parts
